Measured Building Surveys

A measured building survey is an accurate representation of a building or part of a building, that can show the current layout configuration along with structural elements and architectural features. This type of survey can be used for design, verification, facilities management and record purposes as well as area calculation and identify any variations from original plans. Vision can supply measured building surveys that cover several areas including:

  • Floor Plans
  • Cross-sections and Building Elevations
  • Roof Plans
  • Land Registry Plans
  • Ceiling Plans
  • Schematics Drawings

Using the latest technologies such as 3D laser scanners and Total Stations, Vision can gather a large amount of detailed data relating to any building. This can then be delivered to the client in various methods; these include 2D floor plans, 3D models and point cloud data. Projects can range from large scale commercial properties to residential dwellings.

Area Measurements

These specialist surveys determine the size of a building or individual rooms/areas and deliverables can come in the following forms:

  • Gross Internal Area (GIA) determines the area of a building measured to the internal face of the perimeter walls at each floor level.
  • Gross External Area (GEA) determines the area of a building measured externally at each floor level.
  • Net Internal Area (NIA) determines the usable area within a building measured to the internal face of the perimeter walls at each floor level. For example, this method may exclude areas such as restrooms or storage rooms.
